LAN Spider 2.2.5![]()
|
'LAN Spider' allows you to search your entire network for certain files. It uses multiple threads to speed up the search. The program can only search through shared files and folders. However, you can use the program's Options dialog to add accounts to its database. These accounts are used to access shared network resources that need authentication.
This program is easy-to-use, because it has only a few features. On the left side, the program's main window displays a list of computers from your network. You can choose which computers to search, by selecting the corresponding checkbox. It's also possible to select an IP range, and search through the shared resources of each existent IP.
When you type the name of a file you are searching, you should take into consideration that wild cards are not used by default. This means that if you are searching for a file named "soft32.zip", you should type something like "soft*" or "*ft32" in the search box. You can also use the "?" to replace a single character, like "s?ft32.zip".
Pluses: You can use this program to search for files with a certain date, attribute, size, or type.
Drawbacks / flaws: Even though LAN Spider is quite simple, I don't like it when sometimes it stops responding. Once, I tried to stop the search, but I noticed that both the "Start Search" and the "Stop Search" buttons were disabled.
In conclusion: In my opinion this software is not worth the money.
